The FMCSA final rule adopted the 2027 fees, effective October 1, 2026. The average increase across the fee structure is 20 percent; the percentage change is not identical for every bracket.
What does the $55 fee cover?
$55 is the annual 2027 UCR registration fee for a covered entity in the lowest fleet bracket. It is not a price for all DOT registrations or for a filing assistance service.
For example, a covered entity with a UCR fleet count of one pays $55. An entity with a count of two also pays $55. A count of three falls in the next bracket, which is $167. These examples use the UCR fleet count, not an assumed count of every vehicle a business owns.
How do I select the fleet bracket?
Follow the vehicle-count instructions in the official UCR registration portal. Vehicle type and the applicable counting rules matter. If you need help establishing the count, tell us your business type and the vehicles involved when you request UCR assistance.
What do brokers and leasing companies pay?
For a broker or leasing company that is not also operating as a motor carrier, the 2027 UCR fee is $55. If the business also operates as a motor carrier, its motor-carrier activity and applicable fleet bracket need to be considered when filing. The official portal provides the registration categories.
Is the fee different if I file for 2026?
Yes. The registration year determines the fee schedule. For example, the lowest bracket is $46 for 2026 and $55 for 2027. Check the year on the filing before paying.
