Be cautious when a provider advertises an automatic pass, says a course alone completes the DOT process, offers a letter without a clinical interview, or sends the employee to order a personal return-to-duty test. The employer, SAP or other service agent must not give the employee the follow-up testing schedule or disclose its frequency or duration.

The employee should have the original SAP’s instructions, program contact details, completion information and any continuing-care plan.
